Yes, bulk transfer can be easily performed in your
account. As long as a group of domains share
the same administrative contact information, they
can be included together in the same transfer
order request. Names that have different contact
information in the whois database need to have a
separate transfer order.
I
have some domain names that are about to expire.
When should I start to transfer them?
A domain transfer order request must be made before
the current registrar’s expiration date. First,
a transfer order request must created, signed and
fax or mailed. The date that is it received
is the date your transfer order has been initiated.
In case of possible whois database errors or other
problems that can occur during the transfer process,
it is best to start a transfer order several weeks
before the expiration date.
When
I transfer a domain name before the expiration date,
do I lose any of the registration time I had paid
for already?
In most cases, when a domain name is transferred,
an additional year of registration is added on to
the expiration date. For example, if a domain
is set to expire 12-01-2001 and it is successfully
transferred to another registrar in October 2001,
a full year of registration is added on starting
at the expiration date. This makes the new
expiration date effective 12-01-2002. In this
way, domains can be transferred in the middle of
a registration year with essentially no loss of
registration time already paid for.
There
is one exception to this, however. After a domain
has been renewed at the same registrar, if the domain
is transferred in the next 45 days, the added one
year of registration time will be lost. If
the transfer takes place after 45 days of the last
renewal date, then the typical full year of additional
registration is added.
The
expiration date on my domain name has already past.
Can I still transfer the name?
Domain
names cannot be transferred from one registrar to
another if there is an outstanding invoice due for
the domain. Once the expiration date passes
for domain renewal, there is an outstanding invoice
in effect from the current registrar (until at least
a one-year renewal is paid), which prevents the domain
from being able to be transferred.
Since
the expiration date has already passed on my domain
name, what can I do to prevent losing the name?
First, you need to renew the domain for at least
one year with your current registrar. After
the expiration date, you may be able to reclaim
your domain. Many registrars will retain the
domain 5-45 days after expiration. After
the expiration date, your domain is put “on
hold” pending renewal payment. Once you make
the renewal payment during that time, your domain
name is updated with another year of registration.
You can then transfer the name to another registrar,
but you will lose the one-year registration if you
transfer the name less than 45 days after
the renewal date.
I
recently registered a new domain at another registrar.
When can I transfer it to my account with
PageClickDomains?
A domain name cannot be transferred to a new registrar
in the first 60 days after its initial registration
with the current registrar. After 60 days
has passed, the domain can be transferred to another
registrar. This applies only to “new” domain
registrations there are different guidelines for
renewals.
When
a domain name is transferred, is there any change
to the nameserver information?
When a domain name is transferred, there is no change
to the current nameserver information if an outside
nameserver has been used (such as the nameserver
of a web hosting company). If a nameserver
of the former registrar was used (an example would
be a "parking page" or "under construction"
page provided by the registrar), then after the
transfer any previous settings on a parking page
would be changed to the settings of the new registrar.
How
do I initiate a transfer order request from my account?
Click "domain names" on the left navigational
bar. Next, click "transfers".
On this screen you can initiate new transfer orders
and check the status of transfer orders that are
pending. Click on "new transfers".
Fill in the requested information making sure it
is the same information listed on the current whois
database record for your domain. You can check
this by going to http://www.CheckDomain.com.
Type in the domain name you want to check.
The next screen should list the current whois database
information for your domain.
The
contact information that you fill in for your transfer
order request must match the contact information
for either the legal registrant or the administrative
contact for your domain.
On
the new transfer screen, follow the instructions
to create a transfer order request. The next
screen will include a transfer order # that is tied
with the domain or domain names you are requesting
to be transferred. The domain (s) will also
be listed. Print out this page. The
form must be signed by the legal registrant or administrative
contact and then faxed or mailed to the contact
provided. Once this is received, your transfer
order request is initiated.
Your
current registrar will be contacted on your behalf
regarding your transfer request.
Please
note if the whois database record for your domain
name lists only a company name and not an individual’s
name you must type a short letter on your company
letterhead requesting the transfer and authorizing
a certain individual to sign the transfer order
form. This is an obvious security measure.
Without this request, the transfer order will most
likely be denied.
Will
I need to confirm the transfer with a confirmation
email from my current registrar?
After a transfer order request is made, the current
registrar may ask for email confirmation from the
legal owner or administrative contact to verify
the request to transfer. It is important to
check the email that is listed in the whois database
and promptly reply to any confirmation email.
This is one common problem that can delay or disqualify
a transfer order request.
How
long does it take for a domain transfer to take
place?
It
usually takes between 3 and 7 days for the transfer
to be complete. Once the domain name is listed
in your account in the domains section, the transfer
is complete. You can also verify completion
in the transfers section described elsewhere in
the FAQ section.
Can
I check on the status of each transfer order request?
Yes, click on “domain names” on the left navigational
bar in your account and then click “transfers”.
Next click on “check transfer status”. Each
transfer order request will be listed by transfer
order number. You can check on the status
of an individual domain by clicking on the transfer
order link.
How
is payment handled when I initiate a transfer order?
When a transfer order request is made, the funds
to cover the transfer or transfers is set aside
in your account. While the transfer order
is pending, these funds are not available for other
domain purchases. This insures that if and
when the transfer is complete, adequate funds will
be in your account to pay for the one-year registration
fee extension. This explains why there are
two balances listed in your account a “total balance”
and an “available balance.” The “available
balance” is the amount of the “total balance” minus
funds set aside for pending transfer orders.
(There can also be a temporary difference in these
two balances when a group of domains has been purchased
through the shopping cart through "register
a list" and confirmation of domain availability
is pending which can take from 2 to 15
minutes at times)
The funds for the transfer are not actually taken
out of your account until the transfer is complete.
If a transfer order is canceled because of a whois
database error or if you cancel it in your account,
the funds that were set aside for that transaction
will be added back to the “available” balance for
other domain purchases.
Once
I start a transfer order request can I cancel the
order?
Yes, if you have not already faxed your signed agreement
in to be processed. You can cancel
the transfer order by going to “transfers” and then
clicking “check transfer status”. Click on
the transfer order you want to cancel and follow
the instructions to cancel your transfer order.
DOMAIN RENEWALS AND SECURITY
I
am worried about overlooking an invoice for my domain
name when it is time for renewal and possibly losing
my domain name. Is there any way I can be
protected?
You have the option of “auto renewal” which is an
important security feature allowing you to protect
your domain. To make sure “auto renewal” is
activated for your domain name, go to the domain
control panel for your domain and scroll down to
the bottom click on “auto renewal” to update.
You
will receive an invoice notice of renewal at 45
days before the expiration date. If you have
selected “auto renewal" you'll be reminded
that the domain will be automatically renewed from
funds in your account 30 days before your expiration
date (make sure to add funds to your account to
cover the renewal fees). In your account you
can set defaults for the number of years for automatic
registration renewal. Or to change all of
your domains or a group of domains at the same time,
you can use the Global Edit feature from the "domain
names" menu item.
Many
people and companies have lost important domain
names because of miscommunication, email changes
or an oversight of a renewal invoice. The
"auto renewal" feature helps prevent your
domain from expiring without your knowledge.
I
have heard about others attempting to “steal” a
domain by falsifying documents and ordering a transfer
request. What can I do to protect my name
from this?
Another useful feature that comes with every domain
is "registrar
lock". This prevents an outside source
from transferring your domain to another registrar
in their account by falsifying documents
and requests. On the domain control panel
for your domain name, scroll down the bottom of
the screen and choose “registrar lock” feature and
update. Or to change all of your domains or
a group of domains at the same time, you can use
the Global Edit feature from the "domain names"
menu item.
